Another college experience that I had with a different friend from my last post. I’m only using pronouns to protect privacy:
I was in my first year of university when I joined the martial arts club. I hadn’t done it during my first year since I was trying so many things and hadn’t wanted to commit to anything that I wasn’t certain I wanted to do. What made me finally commit was a really good friend I’d made:
She was a second year like me and 5 foot 2 inch tall girl around 19 or 20 years of age. We became fast friends part way through first year since we shared a few science classes together but never really hung out much since we were both so busy.
She and I were walking to the student union one day when I asked what she was gonna do after class.
“I’m going to join the karate club,” she explained. “I used to train when I was a kid but with school being so hectic lately, I didn’t get a chance to keep up with it. Now that I’ve adjusted, I’m picking it up again.”
“That’s cool! I had no idea you’d trained in karate before!”
She smiled awkwardly, “To be fair, it almost never comes up and I’ve never thought to mention it until now.”
“Maybe I should come too,” I’d suggested. “I think it would be fun to at least try since I’ve never done anything like this before. My only exposure has been through movies. Also, I haven’t found anything that really caught my interest yet.”
She laughed, “It’s definitely nothing like the movies but it would be so fun to train together! If nothing else, it’d be nice to have a good friend there that I could train with. I think it would be a lot of fun!”
We’d grabbed lunch from the cafe and made our way to the gym where the classes were being held. She had explained that the weren’t expected to wear the usual martial arts uniforms and that comfortable gym clothes were fair game which put my mind at ease.
The sensei present had welcomed us with open arms as we signed in. We didn’t have to wait long for the other students to arrive. The sensei only made a brief mention toward this being my first lesson which I appreciated.
The lesson start with some basic stretching before moving into basic forms. From the corner of my eye, I idly noticed her size 6 bare foot as it cleanly kicked through the air. Mine on the other hand were a little sloppy.
As we moved through the lesson, the sensei paired us up to practice technique. Mercifully, I’d been paired with my friend who gave helpful tips for my technique as she demonstrated.
“It’s always best to curl your toes back when you kick,” she demonstrated as she lightly pressed the ball of her foot into my stomach. “You try now.”
I mimicked her technique and she smiled, “Much better. Could you feel how much smoother and more powerful it felt?”
“Yeah, it came much easier that time!” I replied enthusiastically as we took it turns to practice our kicks on each other. I could feel the adrenaline rushing through me both as her dainty soft size 6 foot struck my stomach and when my foot struck hers. I didn’t want to say it out loud but I was thoroughly enjoying the experience all around.
The sensei then had us move on to resistance training exercises.
“I want each of you to take turns standing on each other’s stomachs for a few seconds at a time to test each other’s core strength. Abdominal strength is crucial in karate.”
I snuck a glance at my friend to see if this was for real if the sensei had been kidding. I secretly hoped it was true…
“So do you want me to go first or should you…?” I asked, secretly hoping she would go first.
”I’ll go first,” she replied easily. “That way I can show you how it works.” I lay down in front of her bare feet and felt my heart race as I felt her soft soles gently move onto my stomach.
In that moment, my heart started pounding in my chest and my mouth went dry in excitement. Soon after her left foot joined her right as she started with stabilizing herself on my stomach to get a feel for my abdomen. She then started rocking her feet pressing her little toes deeper into my stomach before rocking back onto her heels. That had knocked the wind straight out of me but I tried my best not to let it show: I wanted to make this last as long as I could as she started applying more force. Based on how things were going, I figured she weighed no more than 110 - 120 pounds as I didn’t have to strain like crazy to support her weight.
She then moved on to some light hopping and bouncing: nothing too crazy as she lightly bounced on my stomach. This definitely took things up a notch as I had to work harder to support her weight while also not letting knock the wind out of me.
She had then removed one foot to balance all her weight on one foot, effectively doubling the pressure. THAT had hit like a truck and suddenly I was straining my abdominal muscles to support her.
“How was that for a challenge?” She asked playfully. “Most people here can handle someone standing with both feet on them but if it’s just one foot and the other just hanging? It’s a very different story.”
She gently replaced her foot back onto my stomach before stepping down and offering for me to have a turn doing the same to her as the sensei called for us to trade partners.
I would be lying if I said I wasn’t nervous: I had never done anything like this before and I certainly didn’t want to hurt my friend.
“It’s okay,” she assured me. “This is hardly the first time I’ve done this exercise. I can take it. And I’ll tell you if it starts to hurt.”
Armed with that reassurance I placed my bare foot on to her stomach, idly noting how firm her stomach. As I had never done this before, I had mimicked the same rocking motion she had used when she stood on me. I elected to go more slowly just to help get my bearings as I experimented a little with different areas of her stomach lightly bouncing on her stomach much like she had done to mine. I could tell she was straining a little to support me as she and I weight about the same amount and our feet were about the same size.
Sensei had then called an end to the session and I gingerly stepped off her stomach before helping her to her feet.
“I had a lot of fun today. Thanks for inviting me to come!”
”I’m glad you enjoyed it,” she replied happily. “Think you’ll do it again?”
“Of course!” I replied eagerly.
Indeed in the time since then, we regularly came to each others apartments to practice between lessons. But those are stories for another time… ;)
